The 13th Practical Nigerian Content Forum, a unique platform that brings together stakeholders across the oil and gas value chain was held at the Bayelsa State capital, Yenagoa from December 02 -05, 2024. The annual event is held to discuss, deliberate, and drive the implementation of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act of 2010. This legislation is crucial to enhancing the participation of local players in the oil and gas industry, ensuring job creation, technology transfer, and sustainable development.

This year’s forum in Yenagoa, partly sponsored by Nigeria’s leading drilling firm, Tirex, was not just about policy discussions—it was a convergence of ideas, solutions, and strategies to deepen local content in ways that are practical, measurable, and impactful.

The sponsorship by Tirex Petroleum & Energy underscored the company’s dedication to Nigeria’s local content agenda. With a proven track record in cutting-edge drilling solutions and a workforce that blends global expertise with local talent, Tirex has set a standard for what it means to be a responsible corporate citizen in Nigeria’s energy sector.

At the forum, Tirex showcased its commitment to investing in local supply chains and fostering partnerships that prioritize Nigerian businesses. The company’s emphasis on empowering local communities aligns seamlessly with the goals of the PNC Forum.

Key highlights from the forum included engaging panel discussions in which renowned experts and policymakers debated topics such as increasing local participation in deepwater projects, financing mechanisms for local businesses, and the role of technology in enhancing operational efficiency; exhibitions of indigenous innovations, which featured a vibrant display of Nigerian ingenuity and innovations in engineering, and logistics tailored for the oil and gas industry.

Speaking at the forum, Thompson Tatua, General Manager Operations, Assets & Business Expansion, who led the Tirex delegation said that the event is a necessary step in addressing the shortfalls of local content participation in the Nigerian oil & gas sector.

“The Practical Nigerian Content Forum is a spotlight on local expertise and energy development in Nigeria with a view to improving local capacity and participation within the oil & gas sector.”
